DOT compliance deadlines by state
Updated 2026-08-29 · carrier counts from the FMCSA Motor Carrier Census
Most DOT deadlines are federal and identical everywhere — the MCS-150 biennial update keyed to your USDOT number, UCR each December, IFTA on quarters, annual inspections, medical cards. What changes by state is the layer underneath: your IRP and IFTA base jurisdiction, whether you need an intrastate registration, and the four states that charge a distance-based tax on top of IFTA. Pick your state for the full list.

The four weight-distance tax states
Kentucky, New Mexico, New York and Oregon charge a distance-based tax on heavy vehicles in addition to IFTA. The obligation follows the miles run inside the state, not where the truck is plated — so a carrier based anywhere can pick one up on a single lane. See Kentucky, New Mexico, New York, Oregon.
